Line Driver Hardware

The Pointmaker DTX-DRV line drivers are used to extend cabling for tablets and touchscreens that need to be operated at a distance greater than 30 to 40 feet from the unit.

See below the diagram for an explaination of how to connect the DTX-DRV:

(not to scale)

A ? Pointmaker COMM port (male RS-232 DB-9)

B ? DTX-DRV receiver (female/male RS-232 DB-9 and female RJ-11)

C ? CAT-5 (6 wire, straight-thru, twisted pair) extension cable with (male RJ-11 on each end)

D ? DTX-DRV transmitter (male RS-232 DB-9 and female RJ-11)

E ? Touch screen/tablet serial cable or Touch screen connector (female RS-232 DB-9)

1 ? Connect female RS-232 DB-9 DTX-DRV to any male RS-232 COMM  port on Pointmaker.

2 ? Connect one male RJ-11 end of the CAT-5 extension cable to female RJ-11 port on the DTX-DRV receiver.

3 ? Connect the other male RJ-11 end to the female RJ-11 port on the DTX-DRV transmitter.

4 ? Connect the male RS-232 DB-9 DTX-DRV transmitter to the female RS-232 port on the touch screen, or cable coming from the touch screen or tablet.

The DTX-DRV drivers get power from pin 9 (12 volts) on the Pointmaker COMM port. If you order a Pointmaker and drivers at the same time, voltage will be on pin 9 on all COMM ports, unless otherwise specified.

The CAT-5 cable that goes between the drivers, needs RJ-11 connectors on each end. CAT-5 is typically 8 wires (4 twisted pairs.) The drivers only need 6 wires(3 twisted pairs), straight-thru, pin to pin.

The limitation on the DTX-DRV line drivers is 500ft.
